Catherine Naglestad was born
in California to Scandinavian parents and earned her Bachelor of Music
from the San Francisco Conservatory, furthering her studies in Rome, Milan
and New York.
In 2006 the German Ministry of Fine Arts awarded her the title 'Kammersängerin'
for her outstanding capacity in repertoire ranging from Barock to Verismo.
In an international survey of critics, Opernwelt magazine named her the
'Singer of the Year' for her penetratingly intense role portrayals as
Alceste and Norma.
She has sung with the festivals of Salzburg, Baden-Baden, Bregenz, Edinburgh,
the Ruhr Triennale, the Budapest Spring Festival, the Hong Kong Arts Festival
and the NHK Symphony Orchestra in concerts broadcast live from Suntory
Hall in Tokio. Her opera house appearances include London (Covent Garden),
San Francisco, Paris (Bastille and Palais Garnier), Lyon, Marseille, Berlin
(Staatsoper and Deutsche Oper), Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Stuttgart.
Catherine Naglestad’s richly varied repertoire includes roles such
as Norma, Alceste, Alcina, Rodelinda, Melissa/Amadigi, Nedda,
Poppea, Vitellia, Donna Elvira, Fiordiligi, Konstanze, Musetta, Liù,
Tosca, Elisabetta/Don Carlos, Leonore/Il Trovatore,
Amelia/Ballo in maschera, Violetta, Dejanira/Royal Palace,
Catherine/Der Protagonist and Salome.
Her La Clemenza di Tito from Paris, Alceste, Alcina and Die
Entführung aus dem Serail from Stuttgart have
been recorded live for international television and are available on DVD.
Future projects include: Tosca at Dallas Opera, Bregenz Festival,
Vienna State Opera, Bordeaux and Orange; Aida at Osaka Festival,
Tokyo and Bregenz Festival; Dr. Faust by Busoni for the opening
of Munich Opera Festival; Senta/Fliegender Holländer in
Amsterdam; Tote Stadt in Madrid; Salome in Cologne and Vienna;
and Manon Lescaut in Marseille.
